Hymnless began long before it had a name... with two sixteen-year-old soulmates finding each other, then finding a world where their hearts could be as loud as the music.

Coming of age in the late-’90s rave scene, their story started in the candy-colored embrace of happy hardcore... kandi kids chasing euphoric melodies, impossible tempos, and that feeling of belonging you couldn’t quite explain to anyone who hadn’t been there. Somewhere between the dance floors and the sunrise, a friendship became something bigger. Celestial siblings. Two wonderfully ridiculous souls whose lives would take different shapes, but whose connection would never come undone.

Caree followed her heart into drum and bass, drawn to its restless rhythms, deep currents, and the beautiful tension between tenderness and intensity. Arden followed the soaring melodies of epic trance... music that reaches for the sky and somehow finds something intimate along the way. Portland and Seattle became their separate homes. Each found their own way behind the decks, building a relationship with music as life pulled them into different chapters.

But distance never meant disconnection. There was always a shared frequency... a familiar laugh, a knowing look, the freedom to be entirely themselves. A bond formed at sixteen that neither miles nor years could sever.

In 2024, that history found its way into a shared DJ set at a wedding rave... one of them getting married, both of them behind the decks. What had lived for decades in friendship suddenly had somewhere new to go. Playing together planted the seed for Hymnless: a project built not by choosing between their musical loves, but by letting those loves meet.

Rooted in liquid and melodic drum and bass, Hymnless brings Caree’s love of broken beats together with the emotional sweep of trance and the unguarded joy of their happy hardcore beginnings. It’s a meeting of momentum and melody, deep feeling and glorious nonsense... music for losing yourself without leaving your heart behind.

At its center are two lifelong friends who still believe in what first brought them to the dance floor: PLUR, connection, release, and the joy of being absolutely ridiculous together. Hymnless is their way of sharing that with the world... infectious hearts, celestial sibling energy, and an invitation to feel everything.
